About Northdale Music Press LimitedWelcome! The
Northdale Concert Band, a community ensemble founded in 1967 in
Toronto, Canada, established a publishing companyNorthdale Music
Press Limitedin 1992, to issue new, unpublished, and out-of-print
music by leading Canadian composers. The project began
with the Ontario Arts Councils funding of six newly commissioned
works for the Northdale Concert Band in 1985. On July 1, 1986, to mark
the International Year of Canadian Music, the band performed the world
premiere of the compositions at the Canada and Ontario Pavilions at Expo
86 in Vancouver, British Columbia. But until Northdale Music Press was
established the pieces remained unpublished and unavailable to other ensembles.
Using several of the commissioned works to form the core of the exceptional
music on offer, Northdale continued to seek out new pieces to add to its
catalogue. There is now an increasing
interest in having challenging Canadian music published and performednot
just in Canada but around the worldand, as a result of thoughtful
acquisitions and attention to detail, Northdale Music Press has become
the publisher of choice for many ensembles wanting to increase their libraries
Canadian content. With the success of
the Canadian band division, Northdale Music Press Limited has expanded
to include compositions for other ensembles, and has also established
the Northdale International division, featuring never-before-published
compositions attributed to W.A. Mozart. As a result, the Northdale Concert Band, which is made up of dedicated amateur musicians, can be partially supported by proceeds from Northdale Music Press sales. The rest of the revenue goes back into the company so it can continue to provide ensembles around the world with exceptional Canadian music. |
